Madeleine Christiane (Dumesnil) Dumont

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Madeleine Dumont (née Dumesnil), on March 20, 2024 at the age of 83. Beloved wife of Emile Dumont, loving mother of Paul (Gladys) Dumont, Rachel Dumont (Glen Playfair) and Gilles Dumont  (Danielle Lavoie), and grandmother of Catherine, Claudia and Anne-Marie Dumont; Caleb, Camille and Janique Dumont; Jacob and Zacharie Playfair. 

Sisters: Angélina Couturier, Noella Nutting, Rita Dumesnil. 

Madeleine was predeceased by her parents: Louis Ignace (1993) & Angèle (2002)(Provencal) Dumesnil; brothers: Léon (2007), Bernard (2015) & Jean (2022) Dumesnil; sisters: Gabrielle Morin (2001), Blanche Wagner (2022), Denise Labrecque (2023).

Born in Ponteix, Saskatchewan on Feb 26, 1941, Madeleine moved to McLennan, Alberta in 1950 with her 9 sisters and brothers. She demonstrated an aptitude for  teaching even before she attended the University of Alberta in the Junior E program in education. She started her teaching career in McLennan at the age of 19. She would later move to Bonnyville with her sister Blanche to continue teaching until 1966. Participating in the Catholic Youth Organization she would make a lot of friends, in particular a man by the name of Emile. They would get married in 1966. 

Grand-maman avait une passion pour la francophonie. Nous faisait-elle un clin d’oeil en nous quittant le jour même de la francophonie internationale? Les causes qui lui tenait à coeur et qui lui ont valu son dévouement: plusieurs activités et comités de l’Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta, le mouvement scout pour plusieurs années, la Société du festival et les nombreux bingos qui y étaient associés et son appui au développement de l’école francophone des Beaux-Lacs. Pour son dévouement à la francophonie, elle fut intronisée à l’Ordre des sages de l’ACFA. 

Leisure for Grand-Maman included: bowling, golfing, cross-country skiing, walking, knitting, reading, traveling, playing cards, and singing, especially in the church choir. Madeleine était connue pour sa générosité sans limite et son amour inconditionnel pour sa famille. Elle avait un esprit jovial et farceur. Elle était heureuse entourée par sa  famille, en jouant aux cartes ou de la musique.  

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 11 am (eulogy at 10:45 am) at the St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Bonnyville. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Society of Alberta.
