It is with saddened hearts that the family of Matilda "Tillie" Hempel of Cold Lake, Alberta, announces her passing on Friday, August 7, 2020 in Cold Lake at the age of 92 years. Tillie was born November 29, 1927 in the home of her parents; George and Katherine Kohlman, near Grosswerder, Saskatchewan. Tillie enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, crocheting, knitting and sewing. She was a great hostess and an amazing cook and baker. She could whip up a delicious home cooked meal with fresh buns and dessert within a matter of minutes. She was very social, had many friends and loved any opportunity to sing and dance. We all remember the seven step polka she would perform. Tillie was always very upbeat and had a delightful sense of humour right up to her final days. She will be missed and fondly remembered by all her family and friends.
Tillie is survived by her husband of 72 years, George Hempel of Cold Lake; five children: Ken (Patti) Hempel, Larry (Debbie) Hempel, Angie (Evan Swalm) Hempel, Shirley (Glenn) Strawson, Norm (Brenda) Hempel; sixteen grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Bev Hempel; two sisters: Rosabelle Deck, Mary Gauthier (by 11.5 hours); two brothers: Francis Kohlman, Reinholdt Kohlman.
Tillie was predeceased by her son: Walter Hempel; two grandsons: Marc Schaan, Dion Schaan; parents: Katherine & George Kohlman; two brothers-in-law: Gaston Gauthier, Neil Deck; daughter-in-law: Phyllis Hempel.
