Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Paul ''Gondzi'' Gondziola.
He sailed gently into the mystic on the evening of October 18th, 2019 straight from the arms of love into the loving arms of God.
Paul was born in Canora, Saskatchewan and lived on the farm in Buchanan, Saskatchewan until his 14th year when the family moved to Canora. He moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 1969 and finally to Muriel Lake Alberta in 1994; his most favorite place to be.
Paul was a musician through and through and was happiest surrounded by family, friends, and the music that was made at every gathering, be it large or small. He loved to drive and Connie loved to be his passenger. Together they travelled far and wide visiting family and friends and making memories to last several life times. Paul lived every day with gratitude, optimism, humour, and strength and these qualities live on in his children. Paul was immensely grateful to have such wonderful family and friends and he loved everyone of ''youse'' guys.
He is survived by the love of his life Connie “Button” Gondziola, his children and greatest pride and joy Jason (Natasha Nunn) Gondziola, Amie (Dan) Sondheim and Vonn (Sara Epp) Gondziola and his cherished grandchildren Caleb, Liam, Ezra, Clive, Zoe and Fox. His brother Arthur (Corinne, deceased) Gondziola, sister Mary (Larry) Furman, sister Elsie (Dennis, deceased) Dusterbeck, beloved nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren and many, many lifelong friends near and far. He was predeceased by His father Kayetan Gondziola, his Mother Anastasia (Nettie) Yakamyshen, His sisters Marcella (Peter) Kowalishen and Rosie (Tony) Pasowesty.
There will be a celebration of Paul’s life on Saturday October 26th
Leefield Community Centre, 7910-36 Ave Edmonton.
Doors open at 2pm, Program at 2:30.
There will be an open stage after the program so bring your instruments. Light refreshments will be served and a cash bar.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one's choice.
Respectfully the Gondziola family

When Paul moved to Canora from Buchanan, Paul and his family lived on 4th Ave, just three houses up from me across the street. We walked to and from school every day for the next couple of years. Paul and I played on the Canora High School basketball team, where Paul was also co-captain of the senior CCHS Basketball team. Although we went out separate ways after high school, he to Edmonton and I to Winnipeg, then Toronto, I always knew where Paul was and always asked what he was up to. We reconnected in person over the last several years at School reunions after which we connected quite regularly by phone and email. The last time I visited with Paul and was introduced to Connie was two years ago at a shishliki BBQ in Glen Leson's back yard. Paul was a long time friend - considerate, compassionate, kind and a great sense of humour. He still owes me Toby Keith's song 'I love this Bar". Maybe we will meet again someday, somehow Paul. In the meantime, rest in peace.

Paul & I met in his home town of Canora, Sask. back in 1967 when I accepted a job as assistant music director in the Canora School District. His enthusiastic involvement in the music scene as drummer for the "Trolls" made for common ground to share time and create a close friendship. In later years, I was on the road with my band and worked a lot for the Sheraton chain of hotels which included the Sheraton Caravan in Edmonton where Paul lived with his family. All musicians in my band at that time were from Canora so Paul's home became "the hang" most weekends. We have kept in touch for over 50 years visiting back and forth to stay connected. Paul and Connie were always a source of support and inspiration and I will miss his calls and emails just sending their love our way. RIP my dear close friend. Till we meet again. Dave Proznick (PROZ) - Love you!!!!

We met Paul when Ray and he worked for Nelson Homes in the late 70s. Paul was a compassionate, humorous, loyal friend.
We kept in touch sporadically over the years and we were so pleased to have him and Connie visit us when they came to Vancouver Island a couple of years ago. We were shocked and saddened to learn of Paul's passing and we extend our heartfelt condolences to Connie and all the family. Ray and Donna Northrup
