On October 1st, 2019, Gwendolen (nee Carlton Smith) Lunn, resident of Cold Lake, Alberta for
the past 18 years, and the beloved mother of five children, passed away peacefully at the age
of 99. It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to our beautiful mother. She was the
sweetest, most kind, gentle loving person that we could ever know. We feel truly blessed that
she has been with us for so long. Her spirit has now been released to go and dance on the
streets of gold with a God whom she adored.
Gwen was a wonderful mother - - creative, artistic and imaginative. She filled the lives of her
children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends with hours of wonder as she
introduced them to the beauty of nature. She filled our homes and hearts with artistic creations
that she passionately produced with loving hands.
The medium and subject matter was endless. From oil paintings, sketches, & watercolours to
teddy bears, hooked rugs, pottery, illustrated poetry & children’s books, and even hand -
carved walking sticks engraved with various flora & fauna and one of her favourite scriptures.
Our mother raised her five children as a stay- at- home- mom for many years, taking us for
walks in the woods or by the ocean and introducing us to different birds, plants and other
animals. Following several years of neighbourhood children joining us at home to enjoy Gwen’s
art lessons she was eventually hired at the local elementary school to teach art to the primary
grade children much to her and their pleasure. Gwen’s love of God was expressed in many
ways - certainly through her art, through verse and song and also being able to teach Sunday
school to the children in her local church. She also created pieces of art in use today at the
Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic park in Louisbourg , Nova Scotia..
Gwen was born in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, England to Oswald and Queenie Carlton Smith. She
was predeceased by her mother Gwendolen Queenie and father Oswald Carlton Smith, sister
Helen, brother Arthur and granddaughter Megan. She is lovingly survived by her sister Jan
Sadler of England, her five children. Simon (Carolyn) Lunn, Carlton ( Jane) Lunn, Judith (Glenn)

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to
prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that
where I am, there ye may be also.
John 14: 1-3
